Summary

The plain-looking exterior of the Dunlop Purofort Rig-Air Full Safety Fur-Lined Boot hides a wonderful surprise that gives the interior a comfort boost. While the boot ensures all-day foot dryness with the waterproof Purofort material that blocks water and other liquids, it works twice as hard to deliver superior cold insulation down to -20°C for lasting foot comfort when you’re in cold surroundings. The fur lining provides much-needed warmth while embracing the foot in a soft cocoon, keeping it protected from painful chafing even with continuous moving around for the better part of the day. The fur lining delivers a snug fit for a more secure boot-wearing experience, holding the foot in place to stop involuntary movement inside the boot. The steel toes form a safety barrier to protect the foot from grave injuries if heavy items accidentally drop on the boot from an elevated place in the work area.

Image

The puncture-resistant midsole offers increased protection underfoot as it stops sharp objects from piercing the footwear so your foot won’t be harmed if you unintentionally step on these safety hazards that may be strewn around the job site. This lightweight boot comes with a flexible outsole that adjusts according to your steps, so you get to enjoy a wider range of motion without being restricted by a stiff boot platform. The outsole is designed to have a firm grip on various surfaces so you can move with increased confidence without easily slipping on tricky ground conditions, especially when you need to move more quickly. We will take a more intimate peek at the boot’s qualities to determine which ones contribute the most to the footwear and if there are features that can still be improved upon with a bit of fine-tuning.

When challenging work settings call for more than the bare essentials for boots, this pick is more than capable of offering a comfortable experience without compromising your safety.

Ideal For

  • Those who prefer fur-lined winter boots
  • Winter gardening tasks in harsh conditions
  • People who like flexible, lightweight winter boots

Performance Analysis

Comfort

The Dunlop Purofort Rig-Air Full Safety Fur-Lined Boot is built to bring a high level of comfort, especially when you need to do your gardening and other outdoor activities during the colder months of the year. The Purofort upper easily flexes along with foot and leg movements so walking for hours with this boot on didn’t cause any discomfort, as there weren’t any stiff materials that could dig in painfully with every step.

This flexible upper allowed me to move more fluidly and didn’t get in the way of my quick movements, and even adapted effortlessly when I needed to bend or crouch down to be able to finish the required tasks. Even the sole is remarkably flexible and didn’t restrict my steps, so I was able to move effortlessly without the discomfort and clumsiness that comes with using boots with stiff platforms.

This boot is built with an energy-absorbing heel that soaks up the force of every step, sparing the foot and calf muscles from the intense pain that can be the result of foot fatigue over the course of a long day of walking and staying on your feet. The shock coming from repetitive movements is diffused throughout the boot so that the force and any resulting discomfort won’t be concentrated solely on the heel area. The fur lining inside the boot offers a warm embrace to surround the foot most comfortably for hours, so the foot won’t be chilled when you work in low-temperature environments. This fur lining also boosts the softness of the interior so your foot will only feel the inviting texture instead of being bothered by the painful chafing that may be experienced when using unlined boots for extended periods. The boot is created to provide insulation from cold conditions that can go down to -20°C, ensuring that you’ll be able to continue working in extremely cold settings without feeling like your feet are going to freeze in the harsh temperatures.

It has antistatic properties that will keep you comfortable and protected as you work in areas where there are risks of static electricity accumulation.

Weight

This boot feels much lighter than regular rubber boots, thanks to the Purofort material that’s designed with almost countless air pockets that work to maintain a lightweight structure. The outsole is relatively thin and is made with the same flexible Purofort material, so it doesn’t add a lot to the overall boot weight. Even with the steel toe caps and steel midsole in place, the boot still managed to maintain a lightweight profile, especially compared to rigger boot options made with leather.

Image

Traction

The boot’s outsole is a bit thinner compared to the ones that are often seen in other winter or rigger boots – but still delivers strong traction to help you walk around more confidently while avoiding slipping accidents, especially on wet or slippery terrains. The oil-resistant outsole features multi-directional treads that bite firmly on the ground to make your steps more stable, so you can walk more quickly when needed without compromising your safety. I wish the sole was thicker and more rugged, though, so the boot could more easily and safely be used on rocky or uneven terrains.

Image

Fit and Sizing

This boot doesn’t feel true to size – I went for my usual size 10 and felt that an 11 would’ve been a much better choice. It was easy to put on and offered an extremely snug fit, mainly due to the thick fur lining that provided much-needed softness and insulation inside the boot. This exceptionally snug fit offered a secure feeling, as there wasn’t enough room for my foot to slip or move uncontrollably, which made walking faster on tricky terrains much easier and safer. However, the extreme snugness can be uncomfortable if you prefer spacious boots that leave some space for the toes to wiggle in place to ease fatigue and prevent foot cramps. This very snug fit also made the boot difficult to remove, so you might want to go for a larger size if you want a more comfortable fit that doesn’t require too much effort for removal.

Image

Waterproofing

This boot is made with a fully waterproof material that won’t let water, mud, snow, and other liquids penetrate even when you’re surrounded by these substances while you’re busy with your tasks outdoors. This protective boot ensures that your foot will remain comfortably dry throughout your activities, with the extended boot height boosting safety by stopping the liquids from entering the top of the boot when you need to wade in deep puddles.

Image

Breathability

The fur lining inside the boot offers superior comfort in cold weather conditions but may get in the way of proper ventilation. The lining is designed to retain maximum warmth to ward off the chill in harsh weather conditions and may not allow plenty of air to come in, so breathability may be compromised. The tall boot height also restricts the amount of air that can enter the boot, making this an unsuitable choice for working in hot weather and humid environments where it can quickly overheat and cause a great deal of foot discomfort, especially when used for a long time.

Quality and Durability

The Dunlop Purofort Rig-Air Full Safety Fur-Lined Boot is constructed with the proprietary Purofort material that features millions of evenly spaced pockets of air, resulting in a lightweight structure that offers superior strength to withstand being used in harsh environments.

This material delivers impressive cold insulation to keep your foot wonderfully warm in cold conditions that can drop to temperatures reaching -20°C, ensuring that you’ll be able to continue with your tasks without feeling like your feet will freeze off with the extreme temperature plunge.

The upper is flexible and adapts effortlessly to the foot’s movements, making it easier to move naturally without unyielding materials biting painfully intothe foot with every step. Even the sole is flexible enough to move along with your steps. Wearing this boot didn’t cause any discomfort or clumsiness, which can often be a problem when using boots with stiff soles. The outsole would’ve been even better, though, if it had a thicker and more rugged structure so the boot could be used with better performance and safety over rocky or uneven terrains. The shock-absorbing heel takes in most of the impact of every step so that the force can be diffused properly throughout the boot, helping stop foot fatigue from developing over the course of a long day of walking or staying on your feet. The fur-lined interior hugs the foot in a soft cocoon that also delivers a boost of warmth to maintain superior foot comfort. The fur lining gives the boot an incredibly snug fit that keeps the foot secured in place so involuntary sliding within the boot can be prevented for more stable steps.

This snug fit, however, makes the boot difficult to remove, so you may want to go for a larger size for more convenient boot-wearing and for more spaciousness to allow the foot to shift in place when needed to relieve some of the day’s exhaustion.

This boot is equipped with steel toes that guard the foot against being seriously injured if impact and compression threats accidentally drop on the footwear from an elevated location. The steel midsole, on the other hand, stops sharp objects from penetrating the boot from underneath, so your foot won’t be harmed if you accidentally step on these safety hazards that may be left lying around your work area. The pull-on tabs on the side of the opening are designed to help you with conveniently getting the boot on and off so you won’t have to use too much effort and time on these steps. The waterproof material prevents snow, mud, and other liquids from getting into the boot, providing you with the assurance that you’ll get to enjoy lasting foot dryness regardless of how long you need to stay in wet or waterlogged areas to finish your outdoor tasks. This boot offers antistatic electrical insulation to keep you working comfortably without risking your safety in areas where there are risks of static electricity build-up. The boot’s material is resistant to fuel oils and chemicals to deliver dependable durability that can withstand tough environments without the boot easily breaking apart in the process.
