Comfort

It may be built to withstand tough conditions, but the Ariat Rebar Washed Canvas Insulated Jacket still shines through with comfortable features. The strong material is designed to stretch and adapt to the body’s motion. Without the stiffness that other jacket materials have, I could move as I needed to throughout the day comfortably.

I especially liked the Greater Arm Mobility technology as it enabled my arms to move freely without being restricted by uncomfortably rigid fabrics.

This enhancement helped me become more efficient because I didn’t need to pause and adjust the jacket just to be able to reach for objects.

Working in mildly cold areas wasn’t a problem, thanks to the jacket’s insulated design. The insulation material had a lightweight structure, which made the garment warm enough to ward off a chilly feeling – but didn’t make the jacket feel extremely bulky. Also, unlike other insulated jackets, this one didn’t feel too tight inside, with enough space for me to move comfortably while enjoying the cozy warmth.

Even the nylon lining stretched nicely to adjust to my movements. It had a quilted design that added a bit of softness and smoothness inside the jacket. This lining was slightly padded but, thankfully, didn’t make the interior bulky, so moving was still easy without the tight feeling getting in the way.

The hood was adjustable, so it was quite easy to personalize the fit using the attached draw cord.

I appreciated the ribbing on the hem because it helped keep the jacket secured around my hips, even with continuous movements. The cuffs had the same ribbed design, so the sleeves didn’t hike up every time I stretched my arms to reach for items around the work area. These ribbed sections also helped stop the cold air from entering to preserve the comfy warmth inside the jacket.

Weight

This jacket is relatively light at 1.4kg / 3.1lbs / 49.6oz, considering that it is insulated. I’m glad that it felt manageable even when I used it while working all day long. The jacket is made of strong materials that aren’t too heavy, so it maintained its reduced weight even if it had a slightly rugged structure. It’s also not as thick and weighty as heavy-duty work jackets.

Fit and Sizing

This jacket is almost true to its size, even though the manufacturer recommends getting a product that’s one size smaller than the usual choice. The regular to large fit felt comfortably spacious, with just enough room to allow ease of movement without feeling overly large. It had slightly longer sleeves, but this wasn’t a big issue regarding a comfortable fit.

Waterproofing

This jacket offered a bit of liquid resistance, with the sturdy material preventing water and moisture sources from immediately seeping in. However, we have tested its water resistance, which is limited, and have also established that its material absorbs rather than repels water. This isn’t a waterproof jacket (Ariat doesn’t claim it is anyway!), so we wouldn’t recommend this for wet weather conditions.

Breathability

The jacket is made with wind-resistant fabric that stops air from instantly coming in. This prevents the cold air from creeping in, allowing me to enjoy a comfortably warm interior while spending some time in cold environments.

However, this wind resistance also negatively affected breathability, as less air can come in to circulate.

This roomy fit of the jacket helped dispel an uncomfortably stuffy feeling, especially when the workplace started to feel a lot warmer during the day.

Quality and Durability

The Ariat Rebar Washed Canvas Insulated Jacket is constructed with the exclusive ToughMax DuraStretch canvas that’s twice as durable as pure cotton fabric. I loved how this material injected a bit of ruggedness into the jacket to make it sturdy enough for different worksites. At the same time, the jacket maintained a relatively lightweight feel even with the durable fabric at work, so I didn’t feel uncomfortable using an overly weighty garment.

It’s built with Cool Climate insulation to preserve comfortable warmth.

At the same time, this insulation keeps the jacket’s reduced weight with its lightweight structure.

This jacket’s stretchy fabric instantly adjusted to my body’s motion, making it much easier to move around without rigid materials getting in the way.

I liked the Greater Arm Mobility technology that enabled my arms to enjoy a wider range of motion for better efficiency while working on different tasks. The nylon inner lining was made to stretch along with various movements, with the quilted structure providing superior comfort while allowing complete ease of movement.

I appreciated the addition of abrasion-resistant sections in high-friction areas, as these prevented premature damage.

This was especially helpful when I needed to use the jacket regularly in tough settings where I needed to constantly move to get the job done correctly.

This jacket is also wind resistant, protecting me from getting uncomfortably chilled as the cold air is prevented from seeping in.

The medium-sized chest pocket had a zipper, making it ideal for securing phones, keys, and other valuable items. A small inner pocket had enough room to hold my wallet and other items that I want to protect against the elements. Meanwhile, the hand pockets were lined with a fleece-like material that enveloped my hands with superior warmth while offering yet another area to store essential items.

I liked the hood not only because it was easy to adjust but also because it was lined with the same quilted nylon that’s attached to the rest of the jacket’s body. The hem and cuffs featured ribbed designs that helped keep the respective sections in place even with continuous movement. The ribbing also blocked cold air from getting in, keeping the interior warm for longer.

This isn’t a waterproof jacket, though, so it won’t work well in wet environments.

The taffeta layer that lines the sleeves makes them much easier to slip on and off. The pockets on the interior and exterior have enough room to stash essential objects, such as gadgets and work tools, that may be needed throughout the day. It should be noted that this jacket doesn’t come with waterproof qualities, so there are better choices for wet job sites.

Timberland PRO Men’s Dry Shift Max Jacket

The Timberland PRO Men’s Dry Shift Max Jacket showcases the signature RainProof waterproof technology in the lining to seal out wetness, ensuring that rain and other liquids won’t have a chance to penetrate to keep the interior dry. The lining is breathable, enabling quick heat and moisture dissipation for comfortable jacket use all day. The fleece lining gave the inner part a soothingly soft feel, making the jacket-wearing experience much more enjoyable. The Thermolite insulation traps enough warmth for continuous coziness while working in low-temperature environments without the bulky feel that other insulation materials often have. The arms and shoulders of this jacket are reinforced with Cordura sections, protecting these high-friction areas so they won’t easily get damaged with heavy use. This is a remarkably warm jacket so it could be better for warm or non-winter settings.

The Dickies Duck Shirt Jacket is much lighter than other work jackets with similar features, making it comfortable enough to be worn all day for continuous work as it doesn’t weigh the body down with a bulky feel. It has a water-resistant structure to block small splashes of liquids from penetrating, so it can protect against uncomfortable wetness when it’s worn for working outdoors while it’s slightly drizzling. A soft quilted material lined the body and added another level of softness without taking up too much space, leaving enough room for comfortable movements. Meanwhile, the hand pockets are lined with a fleece-like fabric that offers warmth and softness when needed. The jersey-lined hood protects the head while offering a welcoming softness that nicely glides on the skin. However, this jacket isn’t insulated or waterproof, so it will only perform well in moderately cold or wet surroundings.

The loose fit adds to the ease of movement while wearing this jacket. It’s worth noting that there are better choices than this jacket for severely cold work settings.
