Summary

The Blundstone 2039 Chelsea Shoe has a premium look, which I closely associate with Blundstone boots, although this one comes in a lower-cut style.

The Chelsea design is not only fashionably versatile but it also makes the boot such a breeze to put on and take off.

I appreciate the water-resistant leather upper that protects the foot against uncomfortable wetness in mild weather conditions.

The boot showcases an exclusive comfort system that absorbs most of the impact of walking on hard ground, making walking a lot more comfortable, even over long periods.

I like how the flexible outsole easily moves with every step for a wider range of foot motion. This snug-fitting shoe delivers great ankle support to prevent accidental ankle twisting, although it may feel too tight for some.

Key Takeaways

• The Blundstone 2039 Chelsea Shoe is a superb choice when you’re looking for comfortable slip-on leather shoes with a minimalist design that can be maximized at work and for leisure or fashion purposes.
• The leather upper is water-resistant, so it doesn’t let liquids penetrate immediately, while the unlined structure allows the foot to breathe and feel cool for much longer.
• The boot uses the proprietary SPS Max Comfort system for nonstop shock absorption, soaking up and dispersing the impact to protect the foot against a fatigued feeling.
• The sole flexes fluidly with every step to give the foot comfortable mobility, with a durable design that can last a long time.
• These boots can feel too tight, though, so it’s unsuitable for wide feet. They’re also quite expensive, costing around twice the price of other shoes with similar designs.

Ideal For

  • Outdoor use in mild weather conditions
  • Non-hazardous work environments
  • People who prefer a snug-fitting slip-on shoe

Exploring the Blundstone 2039 Chelsea Shoe in Depth

Comfort

Image

The shoe’s slip-on design stands out because of its style benefits and makes it easy to get into and out of. I could put on and take off the shoes without discomfort, unlike taller Blundstone boots that can be quite difficult to maneuver into. In addition, the flexible sole helps increase comfort as it closely follows the foot’s motion, enabling comfortable walking without rigid materials interfering with mobility from the bottom of the shoe.

The shoe uses the patented SPS Max Comfort that works by absorbing almost 90% of the impact while walking.

This impact absorption saves my foot from being overwhelmed by fatigue, especially when I’ve already been standing or walking for hours.

However, I noticed that this shoe doesn’t have the exceptionally foamy feel that I enjoyed while using other footwear with shock-absorbing features.

It does have a cushioned midsole for added comfort and a stabilizing feel that I appreciated while walking in variable surface conditions.

A padded collar helps protect the ankle area from chafing due to continuous foot movements.

This component also enhances the shoe’s secure fit while ensuring the ankle has ample cushioning to ward off discomfort.

I love the premium leather’s supple texture and enjoy it even more.

It doesn’t obstruct my foot’s natural movements.

Weight

Image

This shoe is relatively lightweight, which was what I was expecting given its low-cut, slip-on style.

The main reason The TPU outsole may weigh much lighter than rugged rubber soles, which helps the shoe maintain a reduced weight profile. The shoe doesn’t feel bulky and weighty, so it doesn’t cause discomfort even with all-day use.

We have weighted the Blundstone 2039 using our own scale (as shown on the image above), and their weight is approximately 929 grams / 2.05 lbs. / 32.7oz

Traction

Image

The TPU sole significantly contributes to the shoe’s comfortable feel, but unfortunately, it doesn’t offer much when it comes to traction. While it’s durable enough to last through most non-hazardous settings, it’s not resistant to slips and oils.

I don’t feel the sole biting strongly into the ground that I walk It doesn’t feel grippy enough to provide a safe experience on tricky surfaces.

Fit and Sizing

Image

This shoe feels snug, and I can barely call it true to size. It’s easy to put on and remove, though, with the help of the pull tab at the back. This may improve as the leather softens and the gussets become much looser. However, I believe this shoe is best paired with thin socks, as thick ones will result in even more uncomfortable tightness.

I won’t recommend this shoe for wide feet and for those who want footwear with a relaxed fit.

Waterproofing

Image

The upper is made with 2.55mm-thick water-resistant leather that stops liquids from instantly being absorbed.

Small amounts of water splashed onto the shoe didn’t cause my foot to get soaked. This water resistance level makes the shoe suitable for dry and outdoor use in mild weather conditions.

However, because it doesn’t have fully waterproof features, I still won’t suggest their use in extremely wet conditions or heavy rain.

Breathability

Image

I’m impressed with the leather upper not only because of its looks and water resistance but also because of its breathability.

I discovered that it has an unlined structure that welcomes more air, making it easier for the shoe to maintain a well-ventilated feel even if it’s used for long hours in humid or hot conditions.

The breathability also protects my foot against overheating and excessive sweating.

Quality and Durability

Image

The Blundstone 2039 Chelsea Shoe has a versatile Chelsea style that pairs nicely with chinos and jeans, so it can easily be maximized at work and for more casual use.

I especially like the shoe’s premium look courtesy of the genuine leather upper, with a matte finish that looks low-key elegant compared to boldly shiny materials.

The leather upper is flexible and comfortable since it doesn’t get in the way of the foot’s natural motion.

I appreciate the leather’s water resistance that prevents minimal amounts of liquids from instantly being absorbed, keeping my foot dry in mild weather conditions.

The shoe uses the proprietary SPS Comfort Max system for reliable shock absorption, soaking up almost 90% of the impact of walking on hard ground to save the foot against extreme fatigue. However, I noticed that the shoe doesn’t have the foamy, bouncy sensation I was used to enjoying with other shock-absorbent footwear options.  I like the unlined upper as it allows the air to come in more easily and circulate freely, keeping the interior fresh and dry for much longer.

The outsole is flexible and doesn’t restrict movement, instead following every step for better mobility over varying surfaces.

I appreciate the outsole’s TPU material that offers superb durability but doesn’t feel as heavy as rubber soles.

However, it lacks the strong grip that I need to be able to maintain secure footing over slippery or uneven ground conditions.

The slip-on Chelsea design makes this shoe easy to slip into and out of. I’m pleased with the side gussets that stretch to welcome the foot as it enters and exits, eliminating the discomfort that sometimes comes with using pull-on boots and shoes. Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the shoe has an exceptionally snug fit which can significantly enhance ankle support for improved stability while walking.

However, the snugness can cause discomfort for wide feet, especially when thick socks are used.

Other Versions

The Blundstone 2039 Chelsea Shoe is available in the following colors: black, rustic black, rustic brown, and deep brown. It doesn’t come in other versions.

The Challengers

Skechers Work Bronwood Shoe

Image

The Skechers Work Bronwood Shoe is a slip-on design for easy working, cutting down prep time for maximum efficiency on busy workdays and long shifts. The water-resistant upper prevents wetness from penetrating instantly if the shoe is exposed to minimal liquid splashes or spills. It’s also resistant to stains, making preserving the shoe’s high-quality appearance and function easier even after heavy use in challenging conditions. The relaxed fit allows the foot to move naturally without the cramped feeling. Overlays on the heel and toe areas strengthen the shoe’s resistance to damage after exposure to abrasive materials in the work area. The flexible sole supports the foot and its natural mobility for a more comfortable way of walking while offering good slip resistance on most surfaces. It’s worth noting that this shoe isn’t fully waterproof and doesn’t have safety toe caps.

Ariat Terrain Ease Waterproof Shoe

Image

The Ariat Terrain Ease Waterproof Shoe has a bold yet versatile design that looks great on the job site and looks just as superb in more casual settings. The waterproof construction completely seals liquids, maintaining comfortable foot dryness throughout the busy workday. The moisture-wicking lining lets sweat escape easily, preventing moisture and heat from building inside the shoe after long hours of continuous use. The toe and heel areas are reinforced with protective caps to increase the shoe’s defense against harmful abrasion and other damage threats in demanding work areas. The EVA midsole absorbs the shock of walking on hard surfaces to protect the foot against severe discomfort. The top has a neoprene section stretching to accommodate the foot’s entry more comfortably. The Duratread outsole is tough enough to last long but offers minimal traction.

Irish Setter Soft Paw Waterproof Oxford

Image

The Irish Setter Soft Paw Waterproof Oxford uses waterproof full-grain leather and the exclusive UltraDry waterproofing system to block mud, water, and other liquids. The construction protects the foot against becoming soaked in wet work environments, with a moisture-wicking lining to move the sweat away from the skin and promote a comfortably dry foot feeling all day. The moc-toe design gives the toes extra space to enable comfortable wiggling, so it’s easier to avoid foot cramps even with long hours of staying upright or walking around the workplace. The Soft Paw II sole has a strong grip on different surfaces, offering a safer way to walk while maintaining a balanced stance. It’s designed to immediately shed dirt and debris, greatly reducing the risk of tracking in dirt from outdoors. Even with its bold silhouette, the shoe maintains a lightweight structure that remains comfortable for a long time. It’s worth noting that the shoe doesn’t have toe protection and has a snug fit – which can be uncomfortable for some.

Rockport Ellingwood Oxford

Image

The Rockport Ellingwood Oxford has a timeless profile that seamlessly blends with office attire and works superbly with more casual outfits. It uses waterproof full-grain leather to keep the foot completely dry in case it rains and other conditions involving exposure to extreme wetness. The gusseted tongue stops debris from getting in and also helps enhance the shoe’s waterproofing ability.  The sole is built to absorb most of the shock from hours of walking on unyielding surfaces, protecting the foot against severe fatigue and discomfort. The PU outsole has a relatively smooth outer surface, so it’s unsurprising that it only offers a minimal grip on most floors. The shoe has a unique Kinetic Air Circulator that encourages the air to circulate, prolonging the cool and fresh foot feeling for much longer. However, the shoe feels snug, so it’s not the best option for wide feet.

The Clarks Cotrell Free Loafer

Image

The Clarks Cotrell Free Loafer’s moc-toe design gives the toes ample room to wiggle freely, preventing the cramped feeling that tends to build up after hours of walking or standing on the job. The shoe’s slip-on design offers superior convenience since no shoelaces need to be tied and fixed with every use. The shoe’s lightweight structure doesn’t cause a dragging feeling on the foot for better daily comfort. The OrthoLite footbed delivers much-needed cushioning to soften the blow of walking on hard floors. Its thin structure doesn’t add much bulk and weight to the footwear while working hard to relieve the foot’s pressure points. The EVA outsole has a lightweight, flexible structure promoting comfortable walking – but it doesn’t have the strong traction that’s needed to prevent slipping on challenging surfaces.

Conclusion & Verdict

The Blundstone 2039 Chelsea Shoe is built to promote all-day foot comfort while offering minimal protection against the elements. I would appreciate the strong shock absorption courtesy of the patented SPS Max Comfort system to fight fatigue, even if I missed the comfortably foamy sensation I enjoyed in other shock-absorbent shoes. The water-resistant leather upper doesn’t allow water and other liquids to come in instantly, so my foot didn’t get soaked by minor spills or splashes. I especially like the premium design that’s versatile enough to be enjoyed in and out of the work area. The flexible sole looks durable enough to last long, although it doesn’t feel grippy. This shoe feels quite snug, so it can be uncomfortable for those with wide feet and unsuitable for people who prefer relaxed-fit footwear.
